Help the ISU Summer Theatre Program Give Back

For decades, ISU has opened its doors to the community to attend performances as patrons, and as performers, in the world-class Stephens Performing Arts Center. For the past two summers, ISU has presented a special matinee performance during their Summer Theatre production for seniors from assisted living facilities and children from the Pocatello District #25 after school program for a fee.

This summer we would like to make this opportunity available for free, for both assisted living communities and after school programs in the area. This special matinee will provide an opportunity to experience a high quality performance that features community members, ISU students, alumni, and faculty members. It also provides an opportunity to open up our world-class facilities to the public.

2016 Summer Theatre Production

Idaho State University’s College of Arts & Letters and the School of Performing Arts will once again treat Pocatello with a time-honored, classic summer musical. This year’s performance is Oliver! with lyrics and music by Lionel Bart, based on the Charles Dickens’ novel. The play features Oliver, a young boy in the search of a family to love him. He desperately wants to find love, and of course food. A story of survival, Oliver finds love and companionship under extraordinary conditions. There is something for everyone to enjoy in this classic production.

Share your love of theatre!

“I fell in love with theatre at a young age,” said Summer Theatre director Diana Livingston Friedley. “I was given the opportunity to see actors perform with such passion that I wanted to follow in their footsteps. I want to give community members, young and old, the opportunity to fall in love with theatre right here in Pocatello.”

Why your donation is important.

In both 2014’s The King and I and 2015’s Anything Goes, over 300 school children and nearly 30 residents from assisted living facilities filled the Stephens Performing Arts Center to experience the magic of the summer theatre productions. For those children and seniors not able to attend an evening performance, we hope to make the matinee performance, by invitation only, free of charge to those in attendance.
