About Our Club

1stG ND was founded in the summer of last year with a simple goal: to bring together students who were the first in their families to go to college. Starting as a Facebook group, the online community quickly grew from two co-founders to over 200 first-generation and low socioeconomic status students from Notre Dame, St. Mary's, and Holy Cross. After a successful first meeting during the first weeks of the school year and official recognition as a student organization in October, 1stG ND has grown into a network, resource, and group of friends that support one another as they face the unique journey of navigating an elite university with an entirely different background than many of their peers. With each passing year, we hope that this organization continues to grow and becomes a go-to place for students to share their hopes, dreams, hardships, and fears, along with the tips, tricks, strategies, and encouraging words to overcome challenges and feel at home under the Dome.

About this Campaign

Where will donations go?

Your donations will go towards SAO mandated membership dues and events for incoming freshmen to immediately welcome them to campus during a transition that can be very difficult for many first-generation/LSES students. Additionally, we have big ideas to organize an annual retreat and a Midwestern first-generation student conference on top of regular programming that both brings together 1stG ND and promotes conversation on campus about some of the lesser known issues at Notre Dame that affect this group of students.

Why are donations necessary?

One of the core elements of our club is that it caters to students who do not have as many financial resources and work hard to make ends meet. As such, we are hoping to grow our club and expand our programming without imposing an additional financial burden on those that wish to participate. With your gift, we will be better able to subsidize or even fully cover the cost of events so that members do not have to make decisions to partake based on costs.
