Donations to the BGSO will be applied directly to our outreach and professional development efforts. Previous outreach events include partnering with the department to host a YWCA gift drive, creating arts and crafts to donate to the Humane Society, judging science fairs at local schools, teaching after school programs, and communicating science to hundreds of South Bend citizens at Science Alive for over 3 years. Our professional development efforts are just beginning, but we'd like to host faculty from other institutions, run workshops to help gain practical skills (such as presentation design/structure, teaching, and science communication for general audiences) or start a small travel grant to help reduce the burden of conference/workshop costs on the graduate students we support.

Why are donations necessary?
Due to the length of time graduate students spend at Notre Dame, we are in the perfect position to put down deep, sustainable roots in the community. The donations accrued from Notre Dame day will help defray the costs for outreach materials and transportation, as well as allow our students to reach new venues and skills through grants and workshops.
