Advancing research & scholarship in the stem cell field while staying committed to a deep-rooted Catholic identity.

The Center for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine is an interdisciplinary enterprise, bringing together biologists, biomolecular engineers, lawyers, philosophers, and theologians to advance the research and application of adult stem cells and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells to ultimately cure a wide range of medical issues, while also stimulating the ethical and legal discussion associated with stem cells and their use. Innovative. Catholic Faith. Healing.

We need your help! Please consider supporting us so that we can continue to support undergraduate and graduate student researchers and provide funds to send them to national and international meetings to present their cutting-edge research results. A minimum $10 donation to the Center can be compounded if you cast the 5 votes that come with your donation to the Center. However, you need to make a minimum $10 donation and cast your 5 votes to have an impact on the development of ethical treatments for a wide range of devastating human diseases, such as spinal cord injuries, blindness, Alzheimer's disease, and kidney disease to name a few.

"As a Catholic university, Notre Dame carries a mantle of responsibility to use our scholarship and resources to help alleviate human suffering, and, in this area of research in particular, to do so with deep respect for the sanctity of all human life."  Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C.

Donations are applied to...

Your donation and money raised from your votes will be used to support undergraduate and graduate student research on the use of adult stem cells and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells to understand the progression and treatment of debilitating diseases. Adult stem and iPS cells provide an ethical research avenue and potential treatment of medical conditions ranging from Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson disease, blindness, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and kidney disease, to name a few. In addition, research at Notre Dame is exploring the use of iPS cells to generate bone marrow and blood cells, which will significantly impact the lives of individuals waiting for bone marrow transplants. The funds will be used to support these students on their research projects over the summer, when they can devote all of their attention and talent to research, as well as sending them to national and international conferences to present their cutting-edge research results. This research enterprise will also train the next generation of physicians and scientists in the ethical use of this cutting-edge science.

Center for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine

Our vision for the Center for Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine is to expand the number of research and teaching faculty, devise an advanced educational curriculum, and develop a state-of-the-art facility and collaborative research space focused on the study, application, and ethical understanding of adult and induced pluripotent stem cells and their potential to treat and cure many diseases. By gathering a diverse range of faculty with interests in adult stem cell research and ethics under a single umbrella, the University of Notre Dame will make great medical advances in this groundbreaking research, while training the next generation of students in both the methods and ethics of stem cell research. We will be a force for good while respecting the sanctity of human life.

Why are donations necessary?

The research funded by Notre Dame Day is necessary to provide opportunities to the ever-increasing number of undergraduate and graduate students who are passionate about gaining experience in the adult stem and iPS cell research area, developing cures with this technology, and prepare them to continue this ethical research after leaving Notre Dame. We are making outstanding strides in the adult stem and iPS cell research on campus and increasing our visibility to the international research community.

We have the outstanding opportunity to earn a portion of $1 Million! Make a $10 gift to the Center on Notre Dame Day (April 23 – 24) and receive 5 votes to cast. The total number of votes we receive determines our percentage of the $1 Million. To help us reach our campaign goal of $10,000, please choose a donation amount below.
