A Message from the Dean

Dear Friend of SSIS,

This is an exciting time in our College. We are moving ahead with plans to make use of the Sacramento State Downtown building, which is currently in the last stages of renovation and should be available for classes and other activities early next year. These plans include launching the Downtown School of Public Affairs, and multiple academic initiatives under that effort are in the works. We are also asserting our roles as leaders in other areas. For example, the University recently upgraded our Gerontology program to a full-fledged department, and it is the only such unit in the California State University system.

Edward L. Lascher, Jr., Interim Dean

About the College

The College of Social Sciences & Interdisciplinary Studies has over 6,000 majors and master’s students in its undergraduate and graduate programs. The College is strongly involved in the community, with close ties to California state and local government and innovative efforts to improve the lives of nearby residents, such as the 65th Street Corridor Community Collaborative Project.

You can help us be even more successful by:

  • Contributing to student success with a gift in support of scholarships to the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies Fund. Scholarship support enables our students—many the first in their families to go to college— to complete their baccalaureates on schedule and earn graduate degrees.

Giving Priorities:

  • Downtown School of Public Affairs - a gift to this fund will allow us to bring in practitioners and visiting scholars who can greatly enhance our students’ learning experience.
  • Project for an Informed Electorate – a gift to this fund supports efforts that bring benefits to the community.
  • For more ways to support SSIS, please refer to the comprehensive fund list, below.
