Department of Art, Art History and Design

From the beginning of recorded history, the human ability to communicate ideas, to record experience, to solve complex problems, and to design objects of beauty and utility have been embedded in human culture and central to personal growth. Our department provides a unique perspective on what it means to be human. Under the guidance of a talented and diverse faculty, students will acquire the technical and visual skills necessary to work creatively, develop their intellectual abilities to think critically, and cultivate the personal discipline and maturity to reflect thoughtfully on the world and our place in it. Donations are applied to...

Studio Art, Art History, Design, and our Visiting Lecture Series.

Why are donations necessary?

Though we have an immense amount of talented students, the funds to help them excel in their passions are very limited. Donated funds first and foremost will go to our three respective areas of study to cover the cost of materials, and various other needs of the department and its students to maintain our programs' scholastic excellences. In addition to program funding, every semester the Art, Art History and Design department strives to bring in artists and scholars for our Visiting Lecture Series to help inspire students in their work and studies, give them a new perspective, and show them what potential can lie ahead in life with a degree in art, art history, or design. Due to high travel expenses, our ability to reach out to artists from around the country and across the globe are very limited; this limitation leaves us with only a small population of the surrounding Michiana area to reach out to. However, we need a diverse group of lecturers from all types of scholarship and backgrounds in order to provide a holistic experience for our students. Overall, your donations help to aid aspiring artists, art historians, and designers in developing their independent talents, critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as broaden their horizons to continue creating and translating culture to inevitably understand the human condition.
