Donations are applied to...

During this exciting time, we have the unique opportunity to earn a portion of a $1 Million! Make a $10 gift on Notre Dame Day (April 23 – 24), and receive 5 votes to cast. The first $10 donation from each person holds more weight than additional donations from that person. (It's better to have multiple people donating $10 than one person donating $20.) The total number of votes we receive decides our percentage of the $1 Million.

100% of proceeds will support Student Leadership and Professional Development.

Department of Biological Sciences

The Department of Biological Sciences at Notre Dame seeks to understand the fundamental mechanisms by which living systems operate, and employs a wide range of cutting edge and innovative experimental approaches and systems. The Department is highly interdisciplinary and in excellent position to fulfill the promise of the new integrative approach to biology. Basic research is at the center of our endeavors and fuels and inspires our teaching and training efforts.

Our mission and priorities are to advance biological knowledge by demonstrable excellence in research, educate the next generation of leaders in the life sciences, and apply our findings to solve the grand challenges that will shape the future of human health and the environment.

Why Giving Is Important

In his encyclical Laudato Si’, Pope Francis describes the challenge to protect our common home and resolve the tragic effects of environmental degradation as one of the principal challenges facing humanity in our day. Solutions to human health and environmental crises facing our society—such as finding treatments, cures and preventions for human diseases, maintaining biodiversity on land and the ocean, ensuring an adequate supply of food and fresh water, and reversing the effects of pollution and climate change—require advancing the boundaries of biological knowledge.

The Department of Biological Sciences at Notre Dame is renowned for the teaching and research on which such advancements depend. Your gifts in support of the faculty allow Notre Dame to retain and attract the outstanding teacher-scholar leaders that are vital to a preeminent department. Your gifts in support of research sustain faculty and students in their pursuit of innovative solutions and transformative discovery.
