Last year we lost a dear friend and colleague Genoveva “Veva” Nieto-Escobar . Veva was a Santa Monica College Alumni and she worked tirelessly as an advocate for the Latino community, providing clinical health services as a therapist. She motivated all youth to seek higher educational opportunities as an SMC Outreach Counselor. Veva also worked as a counselor in the Latino Center, Welcome Center and Transfer Center. She welcomed every student with open arms and helped them find a path in education and life. She was the true definition of a counselor. We are working hard to raise funds in conjunction with her late husband Fernando for a scholarship in her name that will help benefit students for years to come.

All donations will go towards fulfilling the endowment and making sure we can award a scholarship to a student who embodies the spirit of Genoveva Nieto-Escobar .

Why are donations necessary?
In Order to create a scholarship Endowment a initial $10,000 must be raised. To date nearly $4000 has been donated we are working hard to get to that $10,000 goal .
