Transforming the Library

In this milestone year of our annual library fundraiser, we take this opportunity to honor the legacies of our beloved namesake, Dr. James E. Brooks, and Emeritus Professor Patricia J. Cutright, who served as Dean of CWU Libraries from 2010-2017. Jim and Patricia shared a goal of moving the Brooks Library into the 21st Century, transforming it from a traditional brick and mortar repository for books, to a vibrant hub of academic discourse, both physical and virtual, to serve the campus, the community, and the Central Washington region.

Proceeds from the 2018 Gala will make it possible to continue this journey, beginning with plans for creating a Learning Commons on the second floor of the library. This space will serve as a 200-seat flexible study, instructional, and programming space that encourages collaboration and diverse programming. This renovation also accommodates projected enrollment increases, and will incorporate media technology to support academic creative expression. A portion of the proceeds will also fund the Brooks-Cutright Scholarship, to be awarded to a student currently enrolled in the Library and Information Science program.
