Building a Championship program requires many people and resources. Please take a look at the information below and learn why we are looking to raise $9,942, the same amount of miles needed by this historic team to reach their rivals in the 2016 season. We hope you will consider jumping on board this exciting journey.
The 2016 USD Football team dominated the Pioneer Football League (10-2, 8-0 PFL), finishing undefeated in league and becoming the first Pioneer Football League school to win a postseason game. An impressive performance at No. 21 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the first round of the playoffs earned our Toreros a 35-21 victory, a win that some experts describe as the biggest upset in FCS Playoffs history. USD Football has consistently proved it belongs in the top. With a run of 8 PFL titles that started in 2005, current Head Coach Dale Lindsey has compiled 3 PFL titles and 2 Division I Championship appearances in four years at the helm of the program. USD is the first PFL team to make multiple appearances in the NCAA DI Football Championships since the league gained an automatic bid in 2013. Further in our Road to History, not only was the upset against Cal Poly the first FCS playoff win in USD history, it was the first FCS Playoff win in PFL history as well.
As the League’s individual awards start being unveiled, Jonah Hodges and Dale Lindsey have been named 2016 PFL Offensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year respectively. The 2016 USD Football team has also produced 6 PFL All-Academic Team student-athletes, 9 All-PFL 1st team and 4 All-PFL 2nd team, and 4 CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII honorees. Our footprint at USD and in the community keeps getting deeper each and every year. We strive for more, but we cannot do it without the support from our Torero Football Family.
Our program’s strength is the result of the people that surround us. Student athletes, coaches, alumni, parents and friends make the Torero Football Family one of a kind. We all bind together forging a chain. The more people in it, the stronger it gets and the farther it reaches.
116 people have already joined the USD Torero Football chain since the beginning of the season. We need you in and we need you to help us grow it. If you have not made a gift to USD Football since July 1st, 2016, please consider Making Team History with us today. If you are already in the chain, help us to keep it going. Encourage at least one other person (e.g. fellow alumnus, family member, neighbor, friend, etc.) to join in and keep it going. Every donation received, no matter the size, gets us one step closer to the goal.
USD Football is second only to University of Hawaii in number of miles logged in to play their Conference schedule. USD Football traveled 9,942 miles to the reach the 7 road rivals in 2016, including their final postseason game at North Dakota State. Although this singular amount does not cover all the travel expenses needed, it provides a meaningful goal to show your support. We want to continue providing the best travel arrangements possible to our student athletes, including airfare, accommodation and meals. We are also committed to securing valuable non-conference games, with a scheduled trip to our Ivy League rival Princeton in 2017. 100% of your donation will go to the Football program, covering expenses such as these and many other needs required to run a top level football program.
