What is Umoja?

Umoja, a Kiswahili word meaning unity, is a part of the statewide Umoja community that seeks to educate the whole student—mind, body, and spirit, and engage African American and other students as full participants in the construction of knowledge and critical thought. Umoja seeks to significantly prepare students and increase transfer rates to 4-year colleges and universities.

How are my donations applied?

The money raised will be used to provide financial assistance to Umoja students facing unforeseen financial emergencies and catastrophic events that may disrupt their education. Additionally, the funds will support scholarships to help deserving students complete their education.

Why participate?

Investing in education is the single most effective way to better a community and investing in the Umoja Program will support a student population that continues to consistently have lower rates of success in their courses, and persistence from term to term is lower as compared to all other ethnic groups. In other words, your contribution and attendance at Soul Fusion 4 will make a difference. If you cannot attend our fundraising event, we invite you to make a custom donation in support of the Umoja program.
