Rugby Football Club of Notre Dame
We are thrilled to announce our participation in Notre Dame Day, when the global Notre Dame family will come together to celebrate what each of us loves most about the University. This past year has been extremely exciting for the Notre Dame Rugby Football Club. In May 2016, Justin Hickey was announced as the new Head Coach and Director of Rugby and we saw the return of familiar faces in coaches Lonnie Heeter, Kruger VanBiljon, and Joel Bennett. This fall also saw a groundbreaking partnership formed between Notre Dame Rugby and the Irish Rugby Football Union to share knowledge, expertise, and develop joint projects. This spring, in partnership with The Ara Parseghian Medical Research Fund and the University of Notre Dame College of Science, the team participated in the 5th Annual Parseghian Cup Match with the University of Arizona, and raised over $30,000 for research to fight Niemann-Pick Type C disease. You can visit our website at rugby.nd.edu to get updates on the team as well as follow us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/NotreDameMensRugby/), Twitter (https://twitter.com/ndrugby?lang=en) & Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/ndrugbyfc/).
Why are donations necessary?
With the growth of our club and interest in the sport of rugby, comes growing costs to provide the necessary safety, health and wellness for our students. The program is currently aspiring to raise necessary funds to ensure that a certified athletic trainer is present at all practices and games (both home and away). As a club sport, the team does not have access to the Notre Dame Athletic Department medical staff and must fully fund this independently.
