Personal Message

This April, University Ministry at USD celebrates Search 40 – the 40th time over the past 20 years when lives will be transformed by the love of God. Your support will ensure that all students, regardless of their ability to pay, are able to experience the power of prayer, service, witness and community. In 1997, the vision and hard work and Mike McIntyre, Annette Welsh and a group of student leaders brought the Search Retreat to the USD campus. Ever semester since, Toreros have been blessed to learn that “the best is yet to come.” At this important moment in our history, we ask for your help in making sure the Search experience is available to future generations of USD students.

Search is one of our most popular programs and a true USD tradition. Students tell each other that it’s one of the things “you have to do before you graduate.” Close to 100 students apply each semester to attend the retreat and another 80 step forward to serve as student leaders. Each Search Retreat includes a series of witness talks offered by students, small group conversation, time for individual reflection and prayer, and the opportunity to experience vibrant, authentic community. Your support will ensure anyone who wishes to become a part of the Search tradition will be able to do so, regardless of their ability to pay.

Donations are applied to...

The cost of the Search Retreat, including:

-The retreat site

-Food for the students in attendance

-All other supplies

Why are donations necessary?

Each semester, University Ministry dedicates almost $20,000 to covering all of the expenses related to the retreat. The $80 we charge each participating student covers only a fraction of this total cost and can be a significant challenge for many students to afford. Your gift will help ensure all students who wish to attend are able to and will help cover the expenses of the retreat.
