A Message From The Director
Hello. I’m Kevin Maxwell and I am the Writer/Director of “CORA”, the SMC short film based on the true-life story of my grandmother. This film is about documenting her truths and experiences to give her a voice that was silenced until now... a voice that has the power to heal. Cora and I need your help so that this film can help her speak to people who suffer the same tragedies she faced, to speak to people who suffer in silence. Completing this film for viewing will ensure that these people – human beings you may know personally – aren’t alone. “CORA” was co-executive produced by Steven Spielberg's Sister, Anne Spielberg. She believes in the film and I think you will, too.
Why are donations necessary?
The film needs to be funded for sound design, color correction, and the purchase of original music. $7500 will ensure that we can complete the film, and perhaps have some left over to extend to the next student film makers at SMC. This film needs to be seen. “CORA” is a powerful story that is relevant to current social injustices. It has the ability to raise powerful discussions, which will in turn prevent domestic violence and racial prejudice, and impact many lives. As we shot this film, it grew in scope and meaning and took on a life of its own. Its meaning and message must be shared!
