Description

A spring-semester-only program for students in the colleges of arts and letters, business, science, and engineering. The program, which is coordinated by the Rome Global Gateway, is a unique opportunity for students interested in conducting independent research, doing an internship, and participating in extensive service learning. This program runs during the spring semester and for up to six weeks into the summer. A scholarship is provided to help cover the cost of the summer portion. Most courses are taught or supervised by Notre Dame faculty and additional courses may be taken at one of several other universities in Rome, including: Roma Tre University; John Cabot University; Pontifical Gregorian University; and Sapienza University of Rome. Students may take courses in this program that satisfy Notre Dame general education requirements. Experiential learning opportunities, including a rich offering of service learning options and internships, are available through the program. Students study Italian and enroll in All Roads Lead to Rome—a required on-site course offered by Notre Dame faculty. Students will reside in apartments or residence-style housing within walking distance of the Gateway. Very few cities in the world can boast 28 centuries of such dense, glorious, turbulent history as Rome can. The program is designed to convey the wide range of opportunities that studying in Rome (and Italy more generally) creates.
