What is so special about Tony Seikel?

If you were lucky enough to know Tony as a professor, colleague, or community member, then you already know what an amazing person he is. You may not be aware of all the ways he has impacted us. Here are some of Tony’s accomplishments at ISU:

  • Helped to establish a new School of Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences as Founding Associate Dean;
  • Created and implemented online pre-professional and online master’s in speech-language pathology programs;
  • Established the Consensus Model in our department, which has led to our positive supportive climate;
  • Had an integral role in creating the vision and developing the reality of the Treasure Valley Anatomy Lab;
  • Led the effort to propose an Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Rehabilitation, which is now under review;
  • Published dozens of papers and chapters across a wide range of topics;
  • Wrote the most widely used textbook on anatomy and physiology for speech-language pathology and audiology;
  • In partnership with Paula, developed courses in Mindfulness in the Division of Health Sciences for students, faculty, and community practitioners;
  • Inspired generations of undergraduate and graduate students to careers of creative research and evidence-based practice;
Tony not only contributed to Idaho State University and his profession, but he also generously supported his colleagues with wisdom, humor, and cat stories. Along with Paula, his “Sweetie”, he has spread an aura of peace and compassion for all living things and modeled compassion in all his interactions.

Why a scholarship fund?

Tony is passionate about teaching and learning, and he is committed to assisting students. The costs of our degree programs have increased at a rate far outpacing inflation, and our students often graduate with a substantial burden of debt. A scholarship will support students, advance the professions, and ensure that Tony’s many legacies to our department are remembered for future generations. Please show your support for Tony and Paula as they move to this next stage of their lives, and join us in making a contribution to the Tony Seikel Scholarship Endowment.

Help us honor Tony Seikel!

Give today and honor Tony Seikel: professor, clinician, former department chair, former associate dean of SRCS, and forever friend.

Tony Seikel is retiring after 17 years at ISU in the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders. How do we honor a man who is kind, creative, productive, supportive, amusing, and inspiring? We established an endowed scholarship in his name. You have the opportunity to donate to the Tony Seikel Scholarship Endowment. This scholarship will ensure that Tony's legacy is remembered for generations to come.

Every gift made in support of the Tony Seikel Scholarship Endowment will be used to establish a scholarship that will be awarded annually to a graduate student studying Speech Language Pathology with a focus on clinical research.

What is an endowment?

An endowment fund is a permanent, self-sustaining source of funding. Endowment assets are invested. Each year, a portion of the value of the fund is paid out to support the fund’s purpose, and any earnings in excess of this distribution are used to build the fund’s market value. In this way, an endowment fund can grow and provide support for its designated purpose in perpetuity. When you establish an endowment fund, you create a permanent legacy of support for Idaho State University.

ISU is a recognized as a 501(c)(3) by the IRS. Gifts made to Idaho State University are deductible at the highest limits allowed for federal income or estate tax purposes.
